Lithuania – Sightseeing Shortlist

Facts about Lithuania

Lithuania as travel destination is still an insider tip but more and more tourists are recognizing the beauty of the southernmost Baltic country. For a reason.

Rostock – Harbor, Fischbrötchen and Seven Landmarks

Rostock

After discovering the forbidden island Wustrow, Fiete and I made our way further along the Baltic coast and made a quick stop in Rostock.

Wustrow – The Forbidden Island

“Danger to Life”

Our first stop around the Baltic Sea was Kühlungsborn in the Eastern part of Germany. This destination turned out to become a big adventure…

Scandinavia – My Baltic Sea Loop

Let’s go up North!

Oh, I am so excited. In just a couple of days, I will be leaving up North to Scandinavia!

After discovering the South of Europe cruising through Greece and Italy for a couple of months, it is now time to explore long Northern nights and enjoy the festivities of typical Scandinavian Midsommar time.

Italy – Wonderful Tuscany!

Route & Highlights

Tuscany is a very famous region in central Italy with an area of about 23,000 square kilometers and a population of about 3.8 million inhabitants. This area offers the perfect mix of relaxation and sightseeing for campers. If you are planning a holiday with your home on wheels in this region, here is a little inspiration for you.

Italy – my favorite campsites

Route

After a wonderful time in Greece, Fiete and I took the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Bari in Italy. What an adventure! I was super nervous to get the motorhome on to the ferry, as I have heard nightmare stories about it from other campers. Ferries leaving hours late, unfriendly staff guiding vehicles in a rush, cramped spaces and excellent driving and parking skills needed.

For no reason! It was all easy as you can tell from my cheesy video on our  new YouTube channel:

Greece – My Top 5 Highlights

Route

Greece – I love you! You have been wonderful to Fiete and me.  We will come back – promised!

Fiete and I have been spending almost two months in Greece from March through April 2018. We started coming from Tirana in Albania over to Thessaloniki, Macedonia and Chalkidiki. From there we looped back to Thessaloniki to go further South along the coast visiting the Pélion and Athens. From there we took the route through Peleponnese over to Delphi and Meteora until we finished off in Igoumenitsa to take the ferry to Bari in Italy.

Greece – my favorite campsites

Route

Today is our last day in Greece because we are taking the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Bari in Italy for more camping adventures on the other side of the Adriatic Sea. As Fiete and I were in this beautiful country for a couple of weeks in March and April 2018, we not only met wonderful people but also checked out a couple of campsites along our route. In case you are planning this or a similar itinerary, these are our top spots to stay and why.

Change of Plans

I knew this would happen…

As you might know by now, I am sooo German – such a planner, organizer and change avoider. But being two months on the road now, and six weeks in Greece, I have to admit that a tiny part of my personal culture changed. I knew this would happen.

I got more relaxed and I started to realize that plans have to change if you want to make the best out of your travel adventure. And find your Happy Places…

Croatia – Island Hopping & Cities

Route & Highlights

It was the beginning of March 2018, and you can possibly imagine how much I was looking forward to get out of the cold in Germany, Czech Republic and Austria. My route took me from Graz over to Zagreb – Hello Croatia! Wait a second – snow?!  Yep, that was pretty much of a surprise. The inland of Croatia just got hit by a winter storm with over 1 meter of new, fresh bright white snow. And I was right in the middle of it – on Summer tires.

Snow in Croatia – what a surprise!

So I decided to quickly drive over to the coastal line, where the weather got much milder with temperatures between 10 and even 18 degrees Celsius. Istria and the islands Cres and Krk were definitely my route highlights followed by Plitvice Lakes and further along the beautiful coastal route with my final destination Dubrovnik.

Overall, I spent three weeks in Croatia with almost 15 hours on the road making distance on my way to Greece with over 1.000 kilometers.

Here is my super scenic route in detail:
